The 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000 delivered another unforgettable chapter in Australian motorsport history, with Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood securing a spectacular last-lap victory behind the wheel of the #17 Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustang GT.

Starting second on the grid, Kostecki and Hazelwood demonstrated exceptional pace throughout the 161-lap contest at Mount Panorama. Dominating much of the race and establishing a lead of over 20 seconds, the pair appeared firmly in control before a lengthy pit stop, caused by a delayed right-front brake change, threatened their chances of victory.

Rejoining almost 30 seconds behind the leader, Kostecki faced an enormous challenge. However, a strategic advantage gained through the extended pit stop allowed the team to delay its final fuel stop until lap 150, setting up an extraordinary charge to the finish.

Returning to the circuit in fourth position, 18 seconds behind the leader, Kostecki immediately began closing the gap, twice breaking the lap record in a remarkable display of speed. A late Safety Car brought the field together, setting the stage for a dramatic three-lap sprint to the chequered flag.

After moving into second position, Kostecki set his sights on race leader Anton De Pasquale. In an incredible final-lap twist, De Pasquale's Camaro ran out of fuel, allowing Kostecki to take the lead on Mountain Straight and secure a famous Bathurst victory by just 1.1844 seconds.

The result marked a second Bathurst 1000 victory for Kostecki and Hazelwood following their triumph in 2024, while delivering Dick Johnson Racing its fifth win in Australia's Great Race. The #17 Mustang also set a new record for the fastest Bathurst 1000 in history, completing the 1000-kilometre endurance race in just 5 hours, 54 minutes and 4.7490 seconds.

Beyond the records and statistics, the victory was an emotional moment for the entire Dick Johnson Racing team. The celebrations inside the garage, particularly the reactions of team legends Dick and Jill Johnson, highlighted the significance of this extraordinary achievement and added another unforgettable chapter to the legacy of the iconic #17.
